Azerbaijan, Baku, Aug. 27 / Trend E.Ismayilov /

Shipping Kazakh oil from the Tengiz Field through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) Pipeline is "worthwhile" given the guaranteed delivery and the large volumes, an inside source at the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic told Trend today.

The source added that large volumes means "about 500,000-600,000,. or at least 400,000, tons."

Tengizchevroil began transporting oil through the pipeline in 2008. However, shipments were later suspended after tariff disputes between the company and BTC shareholders in early 2010.

Currently, Kazakh oil supplies to Azerbaijan are transported by rail to the Black Sea coast of Georgia to the Kulevi (SOCAR) and Batumi (KMG) terminals.

Tengizchevroil transports 150,000 tons of Kazakh oil monthly by rail through Azerbaijan, the source said. These volumes are optimal for transportation by rail, he added.

The Tengiz Field is being developed by the U.S.-Kazakh joint venture Tengizchevroil. Chevron is the project operator.

BTC shareholders are: BP (30.1 percent); AzBTC (25 percent); Chevron (8.90 percent); Statoil (8.71 percent), TPAO (6.53 percent); Eni (5 percent); Total (5 percent); Itochu (3.40 percent); Inpex (2.50 percent); ConocoPhillips (2.50 percent); and, Hess (2;36 percent).
