The Jordanian Minister of Transport Alya Bitayana has demanded that
Egypt ensures the safety of a pipeline delivering Egypt gas to Jordan, television channel, Al Arabiya said on Monday.
Mr Bitayana stressed the need to ensure the security of pipeline where a few explosions took place during 2011, because it threatens Jordan's energy security.
Oil ministers of Egypt and Jordan signed an agreement to raise prices on Egyptian gas exports to Jordan in October. The agreement between Egypt and Jordan which was signed in 2004 on the supply of natural gas is supposed to be in force until 2015. Based on this, Egypt, exports 8.6 million cubic metres of gas per day to Jordan.
After the resignation of President Hosni Mubarak in February 2011 dissidents in the Sinai Peninsula blew up the pipeline several times through which gas is supplied to Israel and Jordan.
After a series of sabotage events, gas exports were suspended. Negotiations began to change the conditions of supply.
