By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:

Azerbaijani state oil company SOCAR estimates the growth potential of oil production from the Mayak project at 5-10 percent, an official with SOCAR told Trend.

It was noted that SOCAR is comprehensively studying the ways of increasing production within the project, including the artificial lift method, application of electric submersible pumps, as well as optimization of the gas lift method and drilling.

“We study how all the systems are connected with each other, that is, within the Mayak project, a new integrated approach will be applied to field development and operation of each well. At first, SOCAR will start implementation of this project in shallow water of the Gunashli field,” the official said.

He noted that the model to be applied at Gunashli may also be introduced on other fields, including the offshore Oil Rocks, Bulla Deniz and Western Absheron fields, on the basis of the same algorithm.

“Then the project can be transferred to onshore fields as well. As for the project’s introduction at Gunashli, now evaluation is underway, following which the project will be included in the work program and budget for 2018. We see potential for production growth of 5-10 percent as a result of optimization of operational management, which will be achieved through 'Mayak’s' implementation.”

The Mayak project of Azerbaijan’s Azneft Production Union is aimed at enhancing productivity in the sphere of oil and gas production.

The Gunashli field plays an important role in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas industry. The field’s shallow part is developed by SOCAR on its own, while its deep-water part is developed jointly with foreign partners.
