Turkmenistan to increase electricity supplies to Afghanistan

A decision has been made to increase the volume of electricity supplied from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan, Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said, Turkmenistan State News Agency reported Nov. 30.

Berdimuhamedov made the remarks during his working visit to the Mary province of the country.

“Our country, considering the additional capacities created, is not only ready to increase the volume of electricity supplies to Afghanistan several times, but also conducts practical work to implement new plans for the electricity export within the framework of the Turkmenistan-Uzbekistan-Tajikistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan project,” he noted.

Turkmenistan is committed exclusively to political and diplomatic methods of resolving issues in the settlement of the situation in Afghanistan and intends to further stimulate the restoration of its economy, the development of industry, business environment and the increase of its investment potential through the provision of energy as well, the Turkmen president added.

Turkmenistan supplies electricity to Afghanistan at preferential prices.
