By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

The deadline to put the Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (IGB) into commercial operation is the second half of 2020, said Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Temenuzhka Petkova.

Speaking with the US Ambassador to Bulgaria Herro Kader Mustafa, she briefed about the steps taken since 2015 for implementation of IGB project, Trend reports citing the ministry.

Ambassador Mustafa welcomed the progress made and stressed that the US expects the interconnector to be completed on time.

"We are currently working hard on the project. The deadline we are seeking to put the project into commercial operation is the second half of 2020," said Minister Petkova.

IGB is a gas pipeline, which will allow Bulgaria to receive Azerbaijani gas, in particular, the gas produced from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz 2 gas and condensate field. IGB is expected to be connected to TAP via which gas from the Shah Deniz field will be delivered to the European markets.
