STAR refinery increases exports of oil products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 28

By Nargiz Ismayilova – Trend:

STAR Refinery of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR exported 82,971 tons of oil products in June 2020, which is by 38.4 percent more compared to the same period of 2019, Trend reports citing Turkey’s Energy Markets Regulatory Authority (EPDK).

During the reporting period, 54,031 tons of diesel fuel were exported compared to 30,000 tons of diesel fuel last year.

The EPDK report shows that STAR Refinery produced diesel and jet fuel totaling 549,539 tons and 9,549 tons, respectively in June 2020, as compared to 153,430 tons of diesel, 118,383 tons of high sulfur fuel oil and 66,142 tons of jet fuel in June 2019.

The refinery imported 755,388 tons of crude oil in June 2020, versus 338,760 tons in June 2019, according to the report.

Star refinery replaced jet fuel production with diesel output, as the demand for jet fuel dropped globally amid COVID-19. It resumed the production of jet fuel in small volumes in July.

The opening ceremony of the Star oil refinery took place on October 19, 2018, in Izmir, Turkey. Its refining capacity is 10 million tons of crude oil per year.

STAR Refinery, which has the most modern technologies, can refine more than 100 types of oil.
