SOCAR’s refinery in Türkiye sees decrease in crude oil deliveries

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. The STAR oil refinery of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye received 939,838 tons of oil in January 2024, according to the Energy Market Regulatory Authority of Türkiye (EPDK), Trend reports.

This marks a 2.8 percent decrease in oil supplies to the refinery compared to 966,669 tons delivered during the same period in 2023.

According to the EPDK report, during this period, the plant produced various petroleum products, including about 581,804 tons of diesel fuel, almost 4,060 tons of biodiesel containing diesel fuel, 103,497 tons of aviation fuel, 90,148 tons of other products, almost 31,090 tons of heavy vacuum gas oil, 16,049 tons of liquified petroleum gas (LPG), 176,025 tons of naphtha, 65,761 tons of petcoke, 39,523 tons of refinery gas, and 14,896 tons of high-sulfur diesel fuel.

The STAR oil refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with $3.3 billion of the project's expenses financed through loans. The total investment in the STAR refinery is expected to reach $7 billion.

Featuring an annual refining capacity of about 10 million tons, the plant is capable of processing 214,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
