BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. Cooperation between Azerbaijan and Russia plays a vital role in ensuring food security in the region, said Majnun Mammadov, Azerbaijani Minister of Agriculture, Trend reports.
Speaking at a panel discussion on "Russia's Contribution to Strengthening Food Security at Global Level," Mammadov highlighted the importance of the partnership in addressing food security challenges.
"The collaboration between Azerbaijan and Russia is essential for guaranteeing food security in our region and for both nations. The entire trade transaction between our countries is 1.6 billion dollars, with Azerbaijan predominantly importing wheat and cattle from Russia and exporting fruits and vegetables. We import circa 87 percent of our fertilizers from Russia.
Moreover, it is essential to actively engage in international cooperation on food security, foster mutually beneficial partnerships, and enhance collaboration with both international and regional organizations, as well as intergovernmental dialogue mechanisms that focus on food security, as demonstrated by the ongoing partnership between Russia and Azerbaijan," he said.
