BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. In line with efforts to achieve environmental sustainability and comply with the Paris Agreement, airports have introduced updated certification standards, said Olivier Jankovec, Director General of the European Region of the Airports Council International (ACI EUROPE), Trend reports.
Speaking at a panel discussion on "Airport Climate Action Showcase Heydar Aliyev International Airport Spearheading Carbon Reduction in the Subregion" at COP29, Jankovec shared the development.
"The new measures are aimed at reducing CO₂ emissions and achieving long-term goals for limiting global warming to within 1.5°C and 2°C, as outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
Key updates include absolute CO₂ reduction targets for airports, stricter reporting requirements, and enhanced cooperation with business partners to reduce the carbon footprint across all airport operations," Jankovec explained.
