BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. Pakistan is committed to creating clear policy frameworks that support green transport initiatives, the country's Minister for Communications, Abdul Aleem Khan, said at a high-level roundtable on "Greening Urban Transport" in COP29 in Azerbaijan's Baku, Trend reports.
"At the national level, Pakistan is dedicated to establishing clear policy frameworks to support green transport initiatives. Our national transport policy is aligned with our climate objectives and is focused on making every urban transport project sustainable, low-carbon, and resilient to climate shocks.
The financial needs for Pakistan's transition to a green economy and decarbonization remain substantial. The country is working to increase access to international climate financing as part of its efforts to combat climate change. Pakistan is also exploring the use of tools outlined in Article 6 of the Paris Agreement. We have already identified market-based and non-market approaches that will help diversify financing sources, including green and blue bonds, carbon pricing instruments, and more," Khan explained.
