BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 20. Significant financial investments are necessary for an effective fight against climate change, Canadian Ambassador for Climate Change Catherine Stewart said in a national statement at the COP29 summit in Azerbaijan's Baku, Trend reports.
“The decisions we make and the actions we take today will matter more than we realize. This is a critical decade. Humanity is updating 'records' on climate change every year, and they are disappointing,” Stewart noted.
She underscored that Canada has articulated a strategic commitment to proactively bolster global initiatives aimed at amplifying the adoption of renewable energy sources.
“Canada is working to create a new transformational target for climate finance that will support least developed countries and small island developing states. We must mobilize funds from all sources to help these countries adapt to climate change,” she stated.
Stewart mentioned that Canada is also putting its shoulder to the wheel to create more accessible financial mechanisms that will back projects aimed at weathering the storm of climate change and pushing for debt reforms in countries hit hardest by the crisis.
