Azercell Signs International MMS Roaming Agreement with Six Mobile Operators

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend /Azerbaijan's leading mobile operator Azercell Telecom JV put into operation 6 international MMS services with Bulgarian Globul, Czech O2, Saudi Arabian Mobily, German O2, Austrian One and Ukrainian Kyivstar. The company had put a first international MMS roaming service in Azerbaijan in April 2007 with aim of making Azercell subscribers to feel at home, the Company reports.

Up today leading mobile communication operator of the country has concluded GPRS/MMS contracts with 104 operators from 50countries. But possibilities of MMS service differ from GPRS/MMS service. International MMS roaming agreement differs from the previous contracts because of the opportunities of service. A subscriber being abroad had an opportunity of making MMS exchange only with Azercell subscribers and using GPRS through the GPRS/MMS roaming service, which has been in use up to now. But International MMS roaming service offers a possibility to Azercell's subscribers to exchange MMS not only within the network, but also with the subscribers of the operator, with which the contract has been signed.

Azercell's subscribers already have a possibility to exchange MMS with the subscribers of Swedish TeliaSonera, Georgian Geocell, Turkish Turkcell, Moldovan Moldcell and Australian Telstra companies.

The number of subscribers to Azercell Telecom is expected to increase. Today, the number of subscribers exceeds 2.8mln. The company covers 78% of the country's territory and 99% of the population of Azerbaijan with its mobile communication network.

Azercell JSC was established on 19 January 1996 by Turkcell Iletisim Hizmetleri A S and the Azerbaijan Ministry of Telecommunications.

Azercell Telekom is a joint venture of the Azerbaijani Telecommunication and IT Ministry (35.7%) and Fintur Holdings BV (64.3 %), with 58.55% belonging to TeliaSonera and 41.45% to Turkcell.
