Azerbaijan To Become Highway of Information Flow: Azerbaijani President

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend S.Babayeva / Soon Azerbaijan will become a corridor of information flow, just as in the transportation sector, according to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, in a letter addressed to the 13th International Exhibition Conference on 'Telecommunications and Information Technologies, BakuTel 2007' on 21 November.

Fatma Abdullazade, the head of the Humanitarian Affairs Department of the Azerbaijani President Executive Power, read out the President's statement to the attendees of the exhibition.

The key objective is the development of information technologies in Azerbaijan, the President said in his letter.

"We believe that our strategy, which is directed at the development of human potential in the sphere of IT, will intensify the establishment of an information society in Azerbaijan," the letter said.

Approximately thirty percent of the participants in BakuTel 2007 were Azerbaijani companies. This year, 142 companies from 25 different countries participated in the show and the venue was extended by fifteen percent compared to the previous year. Twenty-seven percent of the companies participating in the exhibition were entering the market for the first time.

Included within the agenda of the exhibition was a conference on 'regional innovation zones: problems and solutions', which were directed at intensifying the implementation of a project to create technical business parks in Azerbaijan.
