Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Internet tariffs in Azerbaijan may drop by 25-30% in near future, the Azerbaijani Deputy Minister for Communications and IT Iltimas Mammadov said during meeting of the companies of the Caspian Integration Business Club (CIBC) on 29 November.

According to Mammadov, internet tariffs in Azerbaijan completely depend on the cost of connecting to the global internet network.

The Ministry is carrying out joint work with internet providers in this connection, which are about 30 in Azerbaijan and only 2 of them are state companies, the Deputy Minister said.

Drop in tariffs may take place in several ways - state companies may decrease tariffs and private internet providers will follow them or the problem may be discussed among the providers, Mammadov said.

"We do not want to interfere with the issue as a state body. Just the opposite, the Ministry wants providers to solve the problem by themselves through rivalry," he said.
