Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 Janaury / Trend corr S. Babayeva / Azerbaijan will receive a planed orbital position from the International Telecommunication Union for its national communications satellite AzerSat in the first half of 2008, the Azerbaijani Communications & IT Ministry reported on 28 January.

"We are constantly negotiating with ITU," a source at the Ministry said.

According to the Ministry, it is more difficult to receive a non-planned position, as it is a long procedure. The difference between the non-plan one also covers foreign countries.

Initially, the project will be financed through the State funds. Some 25% to 30% resources of the satellite will be used by Azerbaijan; the other part will be sold to countries which the satellite covers. The cost of the AzerSat project will amount to $80 to $100mln. The satellite covers Europe and part of Asia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Iran.
