Azerbaijani IT Ministry to get support of over 40 countries to realize East-West project

The Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry intends to get support of more than 40 countries to realize the project on creation of transnational Eurasian super informational mainline East-West, Azerbaijani communication and IT deputy minister Elmir Velizadeh said. 

A meeting with over 40 ambassadors is planned to be held to inform them about prospects of project realization. He did not call exact date of meeting, Velizadeh said.

Next action will be submission of the project to UN meeting, deputy minister said.

Earlier the communication ministry submitted document Support creation of transnational Eurasian super information mainline on the initiative of the Azerbaijani government at the session of the Parliamentary Assembly of CE in late April. The document was approved with interest in CE.  

Goal of the project is to create powerful information infrastructure to get access for cheap and qualitative Internet, broadband services, development of E-information network and E-market. 

Realization of the project will allow participants-members developing not only IT but social sector and other branches of economy, the communication ministry said.

Experts said that united managerial structure must be created to implement a project. All concerned countries must participate in designing of united strategy on creation of network and regulation of tariffs.  

Cost of the project has not been determined yet. Initiators of the project are the Azerbaijani government and the U.S trade and development agency.
