Applying information and communication technology (ICT) to the Azerbaijani education system reaches the level of the Central-European countries, Azerbaijani Communications and Information Technology (IT) Minister Ali Abbasov said at the conference "Modern Education Technology" on the annual activity of the "State Program on informatization of Azerbaijani education system in 2008-2012" in Baku on June 12.
"The state program is implemented in the ICT field of Azerbaijan successfully and this state program [on informatization of Azerbaijani education system in 2008-2012] has had a good start," the minister said.
The conference aims to sum up the implementation of the state program.
Officials of the governmental agencies, employees of the education field, as well as international organizations and embassies are attending the conference.
Under the state program, a local network of schools is created, as well as the first stage of work has finished on creating education portal by the ULTRA Computers telecommunication company.
Roughly 20,000 teachers have partaken in training to apply the ICT to the education field. Their number is expected to reach 23,000 in 2010.
