Azerbaijan to attend discussions at ITU summit

The regional summit of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) "Connect the CIS space" will consider the relevant issues of building the information society, introducing new services, technology, digital television, and information security, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology reported.

The ITU summit will take place in Minsk on Nov. 23-27. The summit is intended to promote a new round of relations between representatives of governments, businesses, financial institutions, research organizations and equipment suppliers interested in developing the ICT industry, towards a global information society in the CIS region.

The meeting will be attended by authorized representatives and experts from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russia and Tajikistan. The Azerbaijani delegation is headed by Minister of Communications and Information Technologies Ali Abbasov.

The high-level meeting Connect CIS space is part of the ITU's global initiative "Connect the World" and is aimed at promoting partnerships between public and private sectors to attract investment needed to ensure compliance by 2015, the main objectives of the World Summit on the Information Society.

The "Connect the CIS space" aims to mobilize the technical, financial and human resources necessary to facilitate the rapid transition of the entire region to the digital infrastructure and services that are universally considered to be the engine of economic and social development. The priorities include developing advanced technologies and communications, creating favorable conditions for attracting investments, improving the regulatory environment, as well as introducing services based on the use of information and communication technologies.
