BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov.15

By Fidan Babayeva - Trend:

Infrastructure and commissioning work on the Georgian section of the new Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line continues in an active mode, the administration of the Georgian side of the BTK project told Trend.

It was noted that the highest point of the line is at the Taparavani-Pokani section, located at an altitude of 2,183 meters above sea level.

"Infrastructural, commissioning work is underway, as well as construction of snow-protective fences. Testing of the installed alarm, centralization and blocking (ACB) and communication systems is also underway," the administration said.

In addition, Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Adil Karaismailoglu said that Turkey plans to attract new investments in the expansion of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway.

"We are working to attract investments in the Divrigi-Kars railway line, which is one of the main sections of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars line. We are striving to increase the line's capacity from five million tons to 20 million tons. In particular, we plan to build a new railway line, which will pass through Nakhchivan," the minister said.

Also, this week it became known that the low-cost airline Buta Airways will operate special flights on the Baku-Izmir-Baku route from December 6.

The Association of International Carriers of Azerbaijan (ABADA) stated that Russia, Turkey and Iran have been leading in terms of freight traffic from Azerbaijan since the beginning of 2020.

The Association outlined that in the near future it is planned to introduce electronic capabilities to more quickly receive and efficiently calculate data on transportation with these countries. The new TIR-EPD advance notification technology will allow holders of International Road Transport (TIR) Carnets to send free electronic advance information on the carriage of goods.
