Small airports in Iranian cities could provide maintenance and other services to private aircraft, said the head of the Association of Iranian Airlines.
"There are currently 170 private aircraft in Azadi airport in Qazvin for training and pleasure flights. At the moment there is no traffic in Azadi airport and it provides services to private aircraft," Maghsoud Asadi Samani told Trend in an interview.
"Although other Iranian airports and air companies are planning to provide services to private aircraft to facilitate the issue of private air transportation in small airports. Private planes should fly in special routes under air traffic control although small planes could fly lower than defined height they have to inform the air traffic control in Azadi airport," he said.
He went on to say that these aircraft naturally have six seats and currently manufacturer Dorna Company is producing small private planes. Furthermore, the price of fuel for jets and private aircraft would be based on the Persian Gulf FOB which is 90,000 rial (about$2.1) per liter however the owners have to pay more for the repair and maintenance cost.
"Aircraft that weigh more than 600 kilogram could only transport 2 passengers and their costs are high and in some cases, the costs are equal to equal commercial planes," he added.
Iran's Minister of Road and Urban Development has stated recently that many airports across the country have the capacity to launch air taxis and people could register their name and private planes in this project
"The necessary mechanisms have been prepared and people could use public airports. Lar airport in the city of Lar at Larestan County in Fars Province has started its work in this field and the city of Khoramabad in Lorestan Province is about to start its activities in this regard," Mohammad Eslami noted.
