The Turkmen and Hungarian presidents Gurbangulu Berdimuhammedov and Pal Schmitt have held talks in an expanded format in Ashgabat, the Turkmen government reported on Wednesday.

During the meeting, Mr. Berdimuhamnedov voiced the "interests of both countries in further developing trade and economic ties."

"The current Turkmenistan-Hungary trade turnover does not fully meet the countries' capabilities and requires a systematic rise," he stated.

When speaking about the possibilities of expanding economic ties, Mr. Berdimuhammedov emphasized the major role of both countries' commerce chambers in this process.

President Berdimuhammedov proposed to explore the possibilities of establishing an intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation between Turkmenistan and Hungary.

A joint Turkmen- Hungarian business forum is expected to be held in Ashgabat on Thursday.
