Turkmenistan is interested in studying Norwegian experience in natural gas production, said the government of Turkmenistan on Apr.7.
The question of possible cooperation in this area was discussed in the ministry of foreign affairs of Turkmenistan during a meeting with the Ambassador of Norway in the country (with residence in Astana) Ole Johan Bjørnøy.
The sides expressed interest in further cooperation in modern technologies of extracting gas in offshore and hard-to-reach areas, said the message.
The Norwegian and Turkmen diplomats discussed mutual interests in the political, trade-economic, energy, transportation and investment sectors, activation of political contacts, expansion of the bilateral legal basis, and realization of joint projects.
Speaking about the cooperation within international organizations, it was emphasized that work on implementation of the resolution on Reliable and Stable Transit of Energy Resources and Its Role in Ensuring Sustainable Development and International Cooperation, which was passed at the 82nd plenary session of the UN General Assembly on May 17, 2013 and composed by Turkmenistan and Norway, continues.
It was earlier reported that Norwegian companies have previously expressed interest in the presence of the local oil and gas market. Statoil Hydro is considering the opportunity to participate in the development of the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea shelf.
The Turkmen side considers itself key in signing the production sharing agreements through direct negotiations on the development of fields in the Caspian Sea is a priority for Turkmenistan. Local experts say that more than 80 percent of the resources are in sediment at a depth of more than 3,000 meters as well as in poorly studied oil and gas areas.
The prospects are associated with two major oil and gas basins - the Middle Caspian and the South Caspian.
