The newly appointed Ambassador of Indonesia Anak Agung Gde Alit Santika handed over copies of credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Komilov, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said Jan.7.

During the meeting at the Foreign Ministry, held Jan.6, the two sides exchanged views on issues of the Uzbek-Indonesian agenda, the prospects of development of bilateral cooperation.

Foreign minister of Uzbekistan and the ambassador of Indonesia confirmed the mutual interest of the countries in enhancing relations both at the international level and within direct contacts of representatives of business, cultural and art workers, in the fields of education and tourism.

It was previously reported that Mohamad Asruhin, the former head of Indonesia diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan, completed his mission in November 2014.

Indonesia recognized the independence of Uzbekistan in December 1991. The diplomatic relations were established in June 1992.

At present, the relations are governed by more than 20 bilateral intergovernmental documents. The basic principles of the Uzbek-Indonesian relations were fixed in the Joint Statement (1992) and the Joint Declaration on the Principles of Relations and Cooperation (1995).

Their mutual trade is limited to a small range of goods and services and does not meet the available economic opportunities of both countries.
