Uzbekistan is developing a law on payments and payment systems which will allow tourists to pay for purchases without transferring money to soums, Trend report via Uzbek media.

After issuing licenses, electronic payment systems such as PayPal, Visa, Mastercard, China UnionPay and others will be able to work in the country. Their access will be provided by the national retail payment system Humo.

Chairman of the Board of the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, Mamariso Nurmuratov, said at the International Press Club meeting that over a thousand ATMs accepting Visa and Mastercard cards will be brought to Uzbekistan, with 400 ATMs already purchased by commercial banks.

All of them are designed for installation in the capital, but will gradually cover the entire territory of the country.

Simultaneously, over 100,000 payment terminals of three types are purchased for Tashkent, accepting Visa and Mastercard as well as Humo soum cards and will be established from March 1 to April 1.

The Central Bank intends to introduce terminals with a remote keyboard in supermarkets and other large retail outlets. Mobile POS terminals and fixed devices have also been acquired. All of them have the function of contactless payments, without requiring to insert a card or enter a PIN code.
