The rate of excise tax on tobacco products in Uzbekistan will be increased by seven percent from Oct. 1, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Finance in Uzbekistan.

According to the president’s decree of April 3, it is envisaged to maintain the excise tax rates on alcohol and alcoholic drinks until the end of the year established on January 1, 2020.

In this regard, the excise tax rates on manufactured goods will not increase until the end of 2020, except tobacco products.

In December 2019, the President signed into law the 2020 budget. The document provided for an increase in excise rates on alcohol and motor fuel twice - on April 1 and October 1.

At the end of March 2020, it became known that due to the pandemic, excise taxes would not be increased. The current rates, which were last changed in October 2019, will remain in effect until the end of the year. Tobacco products are an exception.

Earlier it was reported that from June 1, 2020, an excise tax was imposed on imported heated tobacco products and liquids containing nicotine.
