BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 30. Saudi ACWA Power company explores the potential of developing green hydrogen in Uzbekistan, Executive Vice President -Business Development – Africa & CIS Rohit Gokhale told Trend.

“We are working with the Ministry of Energy of Uzbekistan to develop some private projects and see how we should together invest in green hydrogen,” Gokhale said.

He said that ACWA Power finds Uzbekistan a very promising country for investments. “We have been developing a strategic partnership with the Ministry of Energy for about three years since 2019. Overall we see a lot of positive reforms that happening in the country, especially in the energy sector,” Gokhale said.

According to him, ACWA Power is currently constructing a 1,500 MW combined cycle gas turbine power plant in Uzbekistan, which is in the middle of construction.

“We are in the financial closure stage for 2 wind projects with a capacity of 500 MW each. These projects should be closed in the last quarter of this year. And one more project for 100 MW wind power plant, which is also going to be closed by the end of this year,” Executive Vice President said.

Gokhale added that in total by the end of this year, the company should have under construction power plants with a total capacity of 2,600 MW and will sign a power purchase agreement (PPA) for another 1,400 MW.
