Ahmadinejad arrives in Qatar for regional talks with emir
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in Qatar on Sunday for talks with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Thani, Doha's official news agency reported.
The two leaders will discuss the Palestinian situation, among other regional issues, and ways of boosting economic cooperation, Iranian ambassador to Qatar Abdullah Sohrabi was quoted as saying in press remarks earlier, dpa reported.
They will also focus on approaches to settling the Muslim world's problems, Sohrabi said.
Despite being an ally of the United States, Qatar has maintained friendly relations with Iran and backed Turkish-Brazilian efforts to broker a deal that would avoid further UN sanctions against Tehran.
In March, Iran and Qatar signed a security agreement to develop bilateral and international cooperation in the fight against organized crime, terrorism and money laundering.
