IRGC (Islamic Revolutionary Guards Council) and Iran's Army will hold joint military exercises this year, for the first time since the Islamic Revolution, Commander of Iranian Army's Ground Force Brigadier General Ahmadreza Pourdastan said, IRIB News reported.

Pourdastan noted that the IRGC and Iranian army will hold joint Air Force maneuvers. He also added that other eight military exercises will be held in different parts of the country.

"Real ammunition will be used in the exercises," Pourdastan said. "The exercises will be executed in real conditions, so that our army forces could experience real environment".

General also noted that Iran will install a new fire control system on country's Zulfigar tank, adding that this modification will help Iran's tank to rank higher among world's best tanks.

Zulfiqar is a second generation Iranian main battle tank (MBT), conceived by Brigadier General Mir-Younes Masoumzadeh, deputy ground force commander for research and self-sufficiency of the armed forces.

It is named after Zulfiqar, the legendary sword of Hazrat Ali. The test prototypes of the tank were evaluated in 1993. Six semi-industrial prototypes of the tank were produced and tested in 1997.

Pourdastan also spoke about Iran establishing production of a 3-barreled, 50 caliber machine gun this year.
