Gasoline consumption in Iran will be decreased in the coming days to around 63 million liters per day, the Iranian deputy oil minister predicted.

A number of reasons led to the rise of gasoline consumption in the past calendar month (ended on September 21) to some 70 million liters, Alireza Zeighami said, the ISNA news agency reported.

The consumption is predicted to be reduced to 62-63 million liters as of October 6, he added.

The average gasoline consumption in Iran fell by 1.8 percent during the last week of the sixth calendar month of Shahrivar (September 15-21) compared the previous week, and stood at 68.4 million liters per day, the Shana news agency reported.

Iranian petrochemical units have restarted producing 8-10 million liters of gasoline as daily consumption hits 63 million liters.

The delay in the implementation of the second stage of the subsidy reform plan is one of the main reasons for the consumption rise. The administration has no plan to implement the second stage of the subsidy reform plan at this point in time.

The first stage of the subsidy reform plan, which is mainly focused on cutting fuel subsidies, started in December 2010. And now the government is about to start the second stage.

A number of petrochemical projects will come on stream by the end of this year (March 20, 2013), which will boost the country's gasoline output by around 12 million liters per day, to hit 70 million liters per day, the National Iranian Oil Production and Distribution Company's managing director said in May.
