Economy Minister Babacan Meets IMF Delegation

(ZAMAN) - The International Monetary Foundation (IMF) mission met with Turkish Minister for Economy Ali Babacan late on Monday in the Turkish capital Ankara.

The IMF delegation headed by IMF Turkey Desk Chief Lorenzo Giorgianni met Minister Babacan before his departure to Madrid, on an official visit to Europe. Treasury Undersecretary Ibrahim Canakci also accompanied Mr. Babacan during the meeting.

Having met with Turkish Exporters Assembly officials in Istanbul yesterday, the IMF officials were scheduled to hold talks with the Turkish Industrialists and Businessmen Association (TUSIAD) and the Banks Association of Turkey (TBB) later on Monday. However, they postponed that meeting and proceeded to Ankara to meet Babacan, who was set to leave on Monday for Madrid to start a European tour.

The IMF delegation is expected to finish their preliminary assessment work by October 20.

The latest macro economic situation, expectations and progress made with structural reforms will be taken into account during the commission's visit, reports Trend.
