Iran concerned about declining trade with China

TEHRAN, Iran, Mar.27

Trend:

Iran's trade with China has declined in 2020 to about $16 billion, which was unprecedented in the past 15 years, said the head of Iran-China Joint Chamber of Commerce Majid Reza Harriri, Trend reports via ILNA.

"The statistics of 2020 show the trade volume between Iran and China was $16 billion and even by adding the non-oil exports, the figure didn't reach $20 billion," he said.

"Iran's non-oil export in the last Iranian year (started March 20,2020) was less than $30 billion, the import volume in past three years was declining while the statistics about oil exports is confidential, but it did reduce considerably," he said.

"Our foreign trade has declined partly due to heavy sanctions against Iran and reduce of oil export naturally affected the import volume," Harriri said.

He went on to add that COVID-19 also caused a decline in demand for basic material worldwide, which, in turn, affected the trade.

"While Iran's global trade is declining, so does its trade with China. Iran's trade with China in 2014 was $51.8 billion," said the official.
