A burst of around 20 gunshots was heard over Tahrir Square late Sunday, in an apparent bid by the military to shift sleeping protesters from around the army tanks positioned around the square, dpa reported.
According to a dpa reporter on the scene, the shots were fired into the air, without injury, whilst the demonstrators remained in their places under and around the tanks.
