A roadside bomb killed nine Afghan civilians, including three small children, in Paktiya province on Sunday, CNN reported according to the NATO-led command in Afghanistan.

The device was placed by insurgents, and it detonated when the vehicle the victims were riding in struck the device in Zurmat district in the eastern Afghanistan province, NATO's International Security Assistance Force said.

In addition to the children, three women are among the dead, ISAF said in a statement.

"The Taliban have complete disregard for innocent women and children -- we condemn their (indiscriminate) killing in the strongest terms," said U.S. Army Col. Rafael Torres. "Our thoughts and concerns are with the families of those killed. We'll work with our Afghan partners to find those responsible for this attack and bring them to justice."
