The World Health Organization has compiled a list of 14 countries which need to prepare for a possible beginning of the epidemic of Ebola, Russian consumer control service said Oct.21, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

"WHO has established a list of countries that should primarily adopt a national response plan in case of Ebola spread in the country," the statement said. "The list includes 14 countries that share a common state border with the countries in which there is an epidemic and a high level of migration flows."

Ebola outbreak in West Africa killed more than 4,500 people, according to the World Health Organization. Infections were registered in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, Nigeria and Senegal.

Fever spreads through unprotected direct contact with the blood or secretions of an infected person.

Ebola fever is an acute viral disease with a high degree of infectiousness, it is characterized by severe, high mortality and the development of hemorrhagic syndrome (tendency to cutaneous hemorrhage and bleeding of mucous membranes). Fatality rate of Ebola fever reaches 90 percent. Ebola outbreaks occur mainly in remote villages of Central and West Africa, near the wet tropical rainforest.
