The U.S. welcomes Azerbaijan's pledge to implement new measures to bolster the integrity and transparency of the upcoming November 6 parliamentary elections. The United States welcomed the announcement that the government of Azerbaijan will implement new measures to bolster the integrity and transparency of that nation’s November 6 parliamentary elections, said State Department spokesman Sean McCormack October 26.

He called on Azerbaijan to implement “as quickly as possible” the measures outlined by President Ilham Aliyev, and to permit peaceful freedom of assembly.

The United States welcomes President Aliyev's October 25 announcement that the Government of Azerbaijan will implement new measures to bolster the integrity and transparency of the November 6 parliamentary elections, including accurate voter lists, reliable voter identification documents, and finger-inking to eliminate multiple voting.

The United States urges the Government of Azerbaijan to implement these measures as quickly as possible, and to allow for peaceful freedom of assembly. We call on all Azerbaijani political activists to take advantage of these emerging democratic opportunities in pursuit of an election that meets international standards, McCormack stressed.
