Iran's exporters intend to sell their agricultural products to Russia via Azerbaijan, the Azerbaijani government told Trend Dec. 20.

"The negotiations on possible cooperation in this area are being held," the government said. "Iran is ready to supply raw materials to Azerbaijan. Raw materials will be processed here and supplied to Russia as Azerbaijani goods with an appropriate certificate, label, etc."

This is connected with the fact that Iran's exporters have to pay a 20 percent customs duty while exporting goods to Russia directly. The Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation have a free trade agreement, which exempts from customs payments, the statement says.

Earlier, Iran's Deputy Minister of Agriculture AbdolMehdi Bakhshandeh said that Iran intends to export the products to Russia via Azerbaijan.

"The problem with banking transactions and high customs duties hinder bilateral trade as Russia and Iran have not completed a number of agreements on customs cooperation yet," he said.
