Oil transportation via BTC decreases

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) oil pipeline transported 17.61 million tons of oil in January-June 2016, as compared to 17.9 million tons in the same period of 2015, said the report issued by Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline transported 77.9 percent of the total volume of oil transported via the country’s main oil pipelines in January-June 2016, said the report.

In total, some 22.6 million tons of oil were transported via the country’s main oil pipelines compared to 23.4 million tons of oil in January-June 2015, the said the report.


The total length of the BТС is 1,768 kilometers including a 443 kilometer-long section running through Azerbaijan, a 249-kilometer long section in Georgia and a 1,076-kilometer long section in Turkey. The construction of the pipeline started in April 2003. It was filled with oil on May 18, 2005.


The South Caucasus gas pipeline (Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum) transported 3.59 billion cubic meters of gas in January-June 2016, as compared to 3.6 billion cubic meters in the same period of 2015, the report said.


The length of the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum gas pipeline exceeds 700 kilometers. The gas produced from the Shah Deniz gas and condensate field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea is transported via this pipeline. Gas is delivered to Georgia and Turkey.
