Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are negotiating to open a direct flight of the Kazakh Airline SCAT between Astana and Baku, Kazakh ambassador to Azerbaijan Serik Primbetov said on Friday.
"Almaty-Baku-Almaty regular flights are carried out three times a week. We are working on opening of a direct flight between Baku and Astana," Primbetov said at a press conference.
He stressed the positive dynamics in the development of air links between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan, recalling that a few years ago one had to fly through third countries, which created much inconvenience. Air flights were carried out by "Tu-154" and "Tu-134" planes.
"At present, up-to-date Boeing and Airbus aircrafts carry out flights between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan," Primbetov said.
Speaking about the development of bilateral cooperation between the two countries, Primbetov stressed the positive dynamics of trade and economic relations. He said bilateral trade turnover between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan reached $ 111 million.
A joint venture with the Kazakh capital - Baku Grain Terminal successfully operates in Azerbaijan, Primbetov said.
"In 2010, Kazakhstan supplied about 960,000 tons of grain to Azerbaijan. Now we are negotiating about purchase of the Kazakh wheat by Azerbaijan in 2011," Primbetov said.
He said economic indicators of 1995 are evidence of the positive trends of development.
"In 1995, bilateral trade turnover amounted to $48 million, while in 2010 it hit $444 million," Primbetov said, adding that the largest volume of trade turnover at $465 million was achieved in 2008, before the crisis.
Comparing the indexes of exports and imports, Primbetov said volume of exports amounted to $23 million in 1995, now they hit $342 million. Imports amounted to $25 million in 1995, now they hit $102 million.
