Eni’s production in Libya reaches nearly pre-war level

Italian energy company Eni is currently producing 260,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in Libya compared to 270,000 boe/d during the pre-war period, International Oil Energy Intelligence Group reported with the reference to the company's CEO Paolo Scaroni.

Eni plans to reach production target in Libya at 300,000 barrels of oil equivalent, Scaroni told journalists in Tripoli.

According to BP, Libyan proved oil reserves stood at 46.4 billion barrels in early 2011.

Before the Libyan crisis, the country produced 1.6 million barrels per day and 1.3 million barrels of these volumes were exported.

In December, 2011 Libya extracted about 1 million barrels of oil per day. In the first quarter of 2012 the country expects to increase oil extraction up to 1.3 million barrels per day and by the second quarter - to 1.5 million barrels per day.

International Energy Agency (IEA) which expects Libya to produce around 1.17 million barrels per day by late 2012.

According to the Libyan National Oil Corporation the country's oil export amounted to around 500,000 barrels per day in December, 2011. NOC expects Libya's oil exports to rise to 800,000 barrels per day in January.

During the visit of Italian delegation to Libya, the country's interim prime minister, Abdurahim al-Keeb, announced that the two countries' defense ministers agreed to create a border control system, and for Italy to provide training to Libyans, including for protecting oil installations. Al-Keeb, however, underscored that "no Italian troops would be present."
