Riga hosted the 3rd meeting of the Turkmenistan-Latvia intergovernmental commission on economic, industrial, scientific and technical cooperation, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message.

The meeting was attended by heads and representatives of leading ministries and departments of the two states.

The sides discussed opportunities for cooperation, including in the spheres of construction, transportation, IT and communication, agriculture, healthcare and science.

“The parties called for deepening of cooperation between the two countries through the chambers of commerce and industry and business structures of the two countries,” said the message.

Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov’s official visit to Latvia in September 2012 and the visit of former Latvian President Andris Berzins to Turkmenistan in May 2013 gave an impetus to bilateral relations between the two countries.

The sides will speak about the cooperation on the overland transit and logistics of common routes in order to develop effective and mutually beneficial solutions for cargo transshipment. The volume of bilateral trade between Turkmenistan and Latvia has been growing in the recent years.
