Iran’s car output increases by 39%

Over 1.225 million cars were produced in Iran in the first 11 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2016-Feb. 20, 2017).

The figure indicates a rise by 39.1 percent as compared to the same months of the preceding year, the Iranian Industry, Mine and Trade Ministry’s SHATA news website reported Feb. 27.

Passenger cars (including sedans and SUVs) accounted for 1.139 million of the output with a production growth rate of 41.8 percent, while pick-up output grew by 0.7 percent to hit 71,542.

The country’s bus output increased by 52.2 percent to stand at 1,006 vehicles.

The Iranian car manufacturers also produced 723 minibuses (a 34.6 percent increase) and 12,687 trucks (a 36.6 percent increase) during the 11-month period.

The country’s car output stood at 128,177 during the eleventh calendar month (Jan. 20-Feb. 20), 48 percent more year-on-year.

Over 6,360 pick-ups (a 27.6 percent increase), 2,187 trucks (a 0.148 percent increase), 168 buses (a 171 percent increase) and 89 minibuses (a 229.6 percent increase) were produced during the eleventh calendar month.

Iran’s car output reached 982,337 units in 2015, according to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA). The figure indicated a 9.9-percent fall year-on-year.

Iran was the world’s 20th biggest car manufacturer by end of 2015, while the country stood at the 18th place in the first half of 2015.

The 2014 production statistics by the OICA indicates that Iran’s car production increased by 46.7 percent and stood at 1.1 million cars.
