Iran and Austria have discussed expanding mutual relations, especially in the field of economy.

Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine, and Trade Mohammad Reza Nematzadeh in a meeting with Austrian President Heinz Fischer in Austria stressed urge to strengthen economic relations between Tehran and Vienna.

The Iran-EU economic conference in Vienna will be a good start for lifting hurdles, Nematzadeh stated.

"We are ready to boost mutual cooperation," Fischer said in return.

Then he said that he plans to travel to Iran in September.

The Austrian president said he will be heading a political, economic, scientific, and scholarly delegation to explore venues for cooperation with Iran.

Before international sanctions limited trade with Iran, Austria annually exported worth $684.4 million goods and services to Iran (as of 2005) and imported worth $9.9 million from Iran.

Sanctions are expected to be removed following Iran's deal with the group P5+1 (the US, UK, France, Russia, China, and Germany) on July 14 and Iran is looking forward to expanding its foreign relations.
