Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will discuss Syrian crisis with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on the sidelines of 13th ECO summit in Islamabad on March 1, Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said.

Regional issues including the latest developments in Iraq and Syria will be discussed during the upcoming meeting of the two presidents, Cavusoglu said, IRNA news agency reported March 1.

Both Iran and Turkey believe that establishing ceasefire in Syria is a necessity, Cavusoglu said, adding that Syrian crisis should be settled through dialogue and political decisions.

He further said that humanitarian aids to Syria should be provided without “discrimination.”

Turkey and Iran are at odds over certain regional issues including their handling of the prolonged Syrian crisis.

Tehran has always expressed support for the Syrian government since it sees the President Bashar Assad regime as its main strategic ally in the region.
