Politics Materials 17 September 2008 14:13 (UTC +04:00)

Turkey opened its embassy in Kosovo after its recognition, Turkish Cihan news agency reported.

Turkey was one of the first countries to recognize Kosovo's independence. Former head of Turkey's diplomatic office in Kosovo Mustafa Sarnich has been appointed as advisor. Sarnich said he had been working at Turkey's diplomatic representation within UN mission to Kosovo since 1999.

"Re-forming of the representation office into embassy is a technical process," said Sarnich.

Kosovo Parliament, mainly consisting of MPs representing Albanian population, unilaterally passed independence declaration on 17 February 2008. Belgrade insists to annul the illegal decision. The United States, a range of EU countries and Turkey recognized Kosovo's independence.
