BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 15. Iran is conducting studies on establishing joint free trade zones with Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Pakistan, and Turkmenistan, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme Council of Free Trade, Industrial, and Special Economic Zones Reza Masroor said, Trend reports.

He made the remark during a meeting held on April 14 in Tehran with the participation of heads and deputies of free trade zones.

Masroor mentioned that the Iranian government is pulling out all the stops to push this initiative forward and to get its free zones running like a well-oiled machine.

He emphasized that the creation of a joint free trade zone with Türkiye is a particular focus. A joint working group between Iran and Türkiye needs to be active in this area.

“Investment opportunities in Iran’s free trade zones must be updated. Each zone should have a specific investment attraction program based on its own potential. At the same time, the existing problems faced by investors in these zones must be resolved. Investor satisfaction is crucial, and new investors tend to prioritize opportunities that align with their interests,” Masroor added.

At present, Iran is home to 18 free trade zones and 48 special economic zones, a real cornucopia of opportunities. The country is cooking up a scheme to bump the number of special economic zones up to 79.
