Turkmenistan, Japan set sights on expanding technological cooperation

ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 15. President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Japan's Emperor Naruhito and discussed interest in attracting advanced Japanese technologies to modernize key sectors of the national economy, Trend reports.

The meeting identified the priority areas of cooperation, including the power industry, oil and gas, and chemical industry, construction, transportation, and agriculture. The Turkmen leader noted that these sectors are actively introducing innovative solutions and are open to expanding international partnerships.

Special attention was given to opportunities for collaboration in renewable energy, information technologies, environmental protection, and sustainable development.

On the same day, President Berdimuhamedov also met with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba.

Japan’s exports to Turkmenistan in January 2025 totaled 360.78 million yen ($2.4 million), reflecting a notable decline from previous months. For comparison, exports in December 2024 amounted to 437.64 million yen ($3.3 million), while November exports were recorded at 708.18 million yen ($5.3 million). The highest export volume in 2024 was recorded in May, reaching 770.25 million yen ($5.8 million).
