Kazakhstan and Chile plan to sign an agreement on completely abolishing the current visa system for the citizens of both countries in the near future. Such an agreement was reached during the visit of Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov to Chile during a Latin American tour, Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday.

'Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister Erlan Idrisov arrived in Santiago where he held a number of meetings with Chilean partners. The meeting between the Kazakh Foreign Minister and Chile's acting Foreign Minister, Alfonso Navarro was a central one', the report said.

Idrisov emphasised the symbolism of the first ever visit of Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister to Chile on the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

He said that Kazakhstan is expanding its international contacts and plans to pay increasing attention to the development of relations with Latin American and African countries.

One of the key topics of the meeting was the facilitation of the mutual travel system of citizens of the two countries.

'The signing of the Agreement on the abolition of visa requirements for holders of diplomatic and service passports during the negotiations became a significant step in this direction. The parties agreed to continue negotiations to reach agreement on the complete abolition of the visa system for the citizens of the two countries in the near future', the report said.

In addition, there was an agreement signed on political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Kazakhstan and Chile, designed to set up dialogue between the two countries.

Navarro also informed the Kazakh side about Chile's plans to open a diplomatic office in Astana.

"In addition to the official meetings, the head of Kazakhstan's diplomacy held informal talks with Chilean President Sebastian Pinera Echenique. During the talks Echenique handed the invitation to Kazakhstan's president to visit his country., In his turn, Idrisov also invited the head of Chile to visit Kazakhstan at any convenient time," the report said.
Idrisov will also visit Argentina (October 1) and Brazil (October 2-3) within the Latin American tour.
