Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia has begun investigation on some 170 cases of torture and unworthy treatment of prisoners in the country's prisons. According to the statistics of the Prosecutor General's Office, criminal cases have been initiated against 52 persons.
"Prosecutor's Office of Georgia has begun investigation on around 170 cases on the allegations of torture and unworthy treatment in prisons and police stations. Criminal prosecution is being carried out against 52 persons including nine heads of correctional institutions, seven deputy directors and other senior officials. Charges have been brought against 29 persons and trial is in process against the others," Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia said.
