Georgia and Kazakhstan to discuss “KazTransGaz-Tbilisi”

Representatives of KazTransGaz and Kazakh journalist plan to go to Tbilisi in March to discuss with the Georgian side the future of "KazTransGaz - Tbilisi", Director General of "KazTransGaz" Serik Sultangali told Trend.

He expressed hope that positive results will be achieved.

The Kazakh Company "KazTransGaz" is conducting negotiations with the Georgian side on return of management to "KazTransGaz - Tbilisi".

Earlier, during his visit to Tbilisi in 2012, Vice-President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erbol Orynbayev mentioned that the Kazakh side will do its best in order to solve the "KazTransGaz - Tbilisi" issue. He highlighted that this issue is very important for both sides.

In May 2006, the Kazakh Company "KazTransGaz" became the owner of the Tbilisi gas distribution company "Tbilgazi" as a result of an investment contest, paying $12.5 million for the company.

"KazTransGaz" is the owner of the gas distribution network in the Georgian capital. The total length of the gas distribution network is 2,000 kilometers. The company renders services to over 210,000 subscribers, 3000 subscribers of the communal sphere, and also 400 large industrial enterprises. Since May, 2006, 'KazTransGaz" has invested over $100 million in "KazTransGaz - Tbilisi".

On May 16, 2009 the Energy Ministry of Georgia stated that the Kazakh company KazTransGas-Tbilisi, which has a full stake in the Tbilisi gas distribution system, had accumulated debts totalling $48 million, after which a decision to appoint a special manager was made.
