Pentagon head Ashton Carter believes that the only solution to the Syrian crisis is President Assad's quitting, RIA Novosti reported.
"NATO members must be united and resist the threat," Carter said after a meeting with the British Minister of Defense in London. "Russian actions in Syria are fundamentally wrong and will entail consequences."
Carter said that the US position on the Syrian settlement is that incumbent Syrian president must resign.
On September 30, Russia's Sukhoi Su-25, Su-24M and Su-34 attack aircraft, with the support of Su-30 jets, began precision airstrikes against ISIL targets in Syria, following a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.
